Finding Your Niche

Niche, It’s the word so many people fear and have trouble with when starting out. But just keep calm, niches are really exciting and definitely shouldn’t be something that’s scaring you. Let me explain…

So What Is A Niche?

A Niche put simply is an “audience.” It’s a specific segment of a market.

Here is a list of 5 things to base your niche off of when you start trying to choose a niche that fits you. Ideally your niche is at least one of these.

  1. An interest
  2. A passion
  3. A hobby
  4. A problem
  5. A need or a want

These are the keys to a truly secessful niche and I absolutely recommend that when youre choosing your very first niche to pick one that is going to be interesting to you. There are literally billions of people on the web looking around for things, clicking things, and buying stuff.

Anything you can imagine is being searched for online so worry more on what niche youre going to be working on and enjoying and apposed to a “profitable” niche that you get bored of and give up before reaching any success.

The point in all of this is to say that your online business should not feel like any other typical day job. Making money online and being able to run your own bussiness online is very fun, and it should be. Choosing a niche that interest you is key to this, the more you enjoy it, the more productive you will be and the more fun you will have. Not like a typical day job.

A Niche Is A Group Of People

So to put it plainly a niche is really just a group of people looking for “stuff.” That “stuff” is anything you can think of. I’ll go ahead and list some examples so that you can see what I mean.

  • Cloth baby diapers
  • Video game reviews
  • Scams
  • Organic foods
  • Outdoor photography
  • Weight loss supplements
  • Bee keeping
  • Crochet

These are just a very few of the limitless list of niche to choose from.

There is also something I would like to stress to you when choosing a niche…

There Is No Such Thing As A Bad Niche

Seriously. You might have something you think for sure that nobody would ever be in the market for. You will would be very wrong.

Whatever you’re interested in there are other people that are interested in that too. Remember there are billions of people in the online world.

Also there’s nothing saying you have to stay in the same niche forever so try not to stress to much over it. People change niches all that time and most have more than just one. Just choose a “starting niche”

Broad or Narrow Niche?

“So should I choose a more broad niche or a narrow one?”

This question is asked a lot by people just starting out and as I said above there is really no “bad” niches out there though some may hard to work if they cover too broad a range of the market and same goes for too narrow. For example the “health” niche, that is a very broad spectrum and would be hard to work so break it down a little bit.  So say you break it down to  healthy eating, now you have a much more managable niche and something to focus your website on.

You could break it even further if you wanted to and go with a niche for your digestive system to narrow it down a lot but its still broad enough to work off of and there’s a wide audience that you could reach with that niche.

However like I said your niche can also be too narrow.  for example a healthy digestive system for pet iguanas. That niche would be way too specific and will only appeal to a very small number of people. The other thing to keep in mind is that you are going to have to write about this and keep coming up with things related to this to talk about so something that narrow is going to make it difficult to keep content coming out.

If you’d like some help choosing your own niches, have question, or just want to share something about niches or anything I discussed on this page please feel free leave a message in the comments below. I would love to hear from you.

Cheers and best of luck 🙂

Phil.
